Building a Habitat Home Helps Build a Healthy Community
Habitat homeowners achieve long-term improved wealth and well being through the unique partnership opportunities that Habitat provides. Did you know:
- Habitat does not give away houses - homeowners pay a $1,000 down payment and no profit, no interest mortgage.
- Habitat homeowners must complete 300 'sweat equity' volunteer hours with our organization, 50 of which must be on their own home.
- Habitat homeowners pay property taxes.
- Homeowners are less likely to have substance abuse problems compared to renters.
- Studies estimate a shortage of between 185,000 and 300,000 affordable units in Metro Atlanta (Atlanta Affordability Report, 2004).
Building a Habitat Home Helps Build a Healthy Company
- Employees get the satisfaction of directly changing the lives of people in need.
- Employees pull together as a team to help each other reach a common goal.
- Your company gets positive exposure in the community.
- You build a tangible asset that will benefit the community for years to come.
Building a Habitat Home Helps Build a Healthy Church
- Church members can put their faith into action and achieve tangible results.
- Working together on a Habitat home builds community within the church as members work towards a common goal.
- Building a home offers people a comfortable way to share God’s love.
- Working on a Habitat home communicates the message of being a caring and compassionate congregation to the community.
Find the Right Level of Participation for Your Organization
- Groups of all sizes can participate.
- 100% of your donation goes to the direct costs of building the sponsored home.
- If you cannot sponsor an entire house, we encourage you to consider inviting your clients, colleagues, and others to partner with you. Habitat can assist you in finding sponsor partners, if necessary. Corporations, churches, civic organizations, schools, and individual donors frequently work together to sponsor houses.
- Volunteer support is optional. We will work with you to find the level of volunteer support that works best for you.
